Accell Integrates Loekie into Sparta

loekie.jpgAPELDOORN, Netherlands – Dutch Accell Group is integrating two of it subsidiaries; Loekie (a specialist in kid bikes), and Sparta (the maker of special bikes like the electric ION). There was already a strong cooperation between the two companies which resulted in series of joined 2005 shows that got a warm reception by the dealers of the two companies.

Decathlon Starts Wholesale Activities

Under the label Sport-Dispo, Europe’s biggest sporting goods chain and biggest bicycle seller, is offering a selected range of products mainly to small regional retailchains in France that are located in areas where there’s no Decathlon store. Apologies for and Rectification on Arkus & Romet Group

MAARSSEN, Netherlands – Wednesday, May 31, the Bike Europe eMail Newsletter and website (www.bike-eu.com) reported on an alleged surprise check by EU inspectors at the Polish Arkus bike factory. The charges would have been that anti-dumping exempt parts, destined for bike production, were sold off to compensate for slow sales. This would have been a violation of the EU procedures, and was said to have resulted in a massive € 1 million fine. We were wrong. There are no fines and the report is untrue.>>>


Canadian Cycling Industry Applauds Surtax Rejection

bikeshop_canada.jpgTORONTO, Canada– The Bicycle Trade Association of Canada (BTAC) is voicing its support and appreciation for the Government of Canada’s decision to reject the Canadian International Trade Tribunal’s (CITT) recommendation for 30% surtax on imported bicycles. “This is absolutely the right call for the Canadian cyclist”, states Paul Nielsen, President of BTAC adding, “It is gratifying to us that the most senior public policy makers in Canada recognize that lower taxes are the key to promoting cycling and fostering economic development in the Canadian bicycle sector.”>>>
